ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- One of the final stages in the effort to clean-up Onondaga Lake is set to begin today. Honeywell is scheduled to begin removing contaminated sediment from the lake.

The dredging is part of a more than $400 million project to restore Onondaga Lake to its original state. Honeywell officials do say that although it is expected to get underway today, there are a number of issues that could delay the plans.

When the project does start, 185 acres of the lake are expected to be dredged, and another 417 acres will be capped with clean sediment. That's about 20 percent of the lake.

The dredging is expected to last four to five years.
