CORNING, N.Y. -- The combination of rain and snow melt has emergency officials keeping a close eye on waterways in the Southern Tier.

The Director of Emergency Services for Steuben County says flooding is a possibility in streams and creeks that lead in to larger bodies of water, but they don't expect to have any problems on the Susquehanna or Chemung rivers.

As for people who may be affected by flooding, it's good to have a plan in place.

"If you live in and around a small stream or creek, you’re going to want to monitor that overnight. If warnings are put in for your area, you’re going to want to know what you plan on doing and how to evacuate your area if you need to," said Timothy Marshall, Acting Director of Steuben County Office of Emergency Services.

Driving is expected to be treacherous overnight. Not only will ponding be an issue on many roadways, but winds are expected to pick up throughout the overnight.
