ENDICOTT, N.Y. -- A former Catholic priest who lost his privileges due to his outspoken support for women’s ordination is touring the region.

Father Roy Bourgeois went to the First United Methodist Church in Endicott on Monday. Tuesday, he will be speaking at the Palace Theater in Syracuse.

He's discussing issues in the Catholic Church, and what he calls a struggle for justice and gender equality.

Father Roy was recently dismissed from the Maryknoll order of priests and brothers because he participated in a women’s ordination ceremony. But he argues that such policy will not help the church going forward.

“I have to say, any institution, all male, run by just one gender - in this case, man - is not healthy. It cannot survive in time. It must change, because people today, they know. They are equal. They are more educated,” he said.

Father Roy's events are part of the “Speaker’s Along the Thruway” tour.
