SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Tuesday, County Executive Joanie Mahoney talked about the revitalization happening in Downtown Syracuse in her State of the County Address. There's lot of construction and new business in the area. Gannon's Ice Cream will soon make a section of South Salina Street a little sweeter.
"We're opening next to Cafe Kubal, downtown. Right next door, about mid-April and we're excited about it," said Gannon’s Ice Cream co-owner John Gannon.
He’s excited because ice cream lovers can get their fix the entire year. Their valley location closes in November and reopens in March. This is welcomed news to those who stopped in Thursday for a scoop or two.
"It's definitely my favorite place and my daughter's favorite place. We've been coming here since she was young. We come here frequently," said Kimberly White of Syracuse.
White says she'll definitely visit downtown.
This isn't the ice cream shop's first time being in this part of the city. Last year, they debuted carts in Hanover Square and Columbus Circle. Because of this new location, they won't use the carts, but will continue to focus on making ice the community has grown to love for three decades.
