Candor, Spencer Van Etten considering merger

TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Two more Southern Tier schools are considering a merger. Spencer Van Etten and Candor are the latest districts to conduct a consolidation study.

The schools say with declining enrollment, it's projected that they'd only need to keep two buildings in each district open. However, it still has to be decided which would serve as the combined high school if the merger goes through.

One of the benefits of merging would be additional aid. Over the course of 10 years, the combined districts would receive an extra $30 million for operations.

The next meeting on the topic will be held March 27th at 6:30 p.m. at the Candor Auditorium.
