CORNING, N.Y. -- A big milestone for Guthrie Corning Hospital. Officials held a "topping out" ceremony to celebrate the installation of the final steel beam on top of the new facility.
Dozens braved the cold to witness the event. Hospital officials aim to bring a new era of health care to the region.
The new $130 million facility will feature 65 private rooms to improve the patient experience and an enhanced emergency department. The hospital will also have an on-site helicopter pad for transfers.
The new hospital is expected to open on July 12th, 2014. The old facility will be demolished.
