ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Veterans are getting a second chance at education thanks to a local college. Onondaga Community College announced Thursday all veterans honorably discharged in New York State, whether they're in-state or out-of-state residents, will pay the in-state tuition rate starting this summer.
The announcement came during OCC's Annual Business Conference for the Military Community.
The college says previously, the government paid the out-of-state tuition for those veterans to go to OCC, but in 2011, they stopped paying the additional charges. Now, OCC wants to help those local veterans again even if their legal residence is outside of New York.
"This decision affirms the college's support of our servicemen and women who have honorably served our country and to whom we owe our gratitude," said Cathleen McColgin, Onondaga Community College Provos.
OCC also brought in various speakers for the conference to help more than 100 attendees start up and expand their small businesses.
