Centro heads to Rome
There's a new look for public transportation in the city of Rome. Starting Saturday, the Centro bus system will begin operations in the city. Centro is taking over Rome's VIP system.

Friday, Regional Transportation officials joined local officials to unveil the new look for city transportation. Rome Mayor James Brown says the entire system will be upgraded.

"They're going to evaluate our current bus system, the schedules and they're going to look to upgrade them. They're going to expand a lot of the service to Griffiss Park, the Family Dollar out to Turning Stone, because now we're tied in with the whole area, with Utica so, the whole system is going to be upgraded," said Mayor Brown.

Centro began operations in Utica in April. Some routes can now be linked between the cities.

Brown says the new system will save Rome more than one million dollars over five years.
