People in Franklin County put on their shopping shoes early Wednesday morning and waited for a new Wal-Mart in Malone to open its doors after one year of construction. But, before people could roll shopping carts through the Supercenter to take advantage of rollback prices, hundreds watched the ribbon cutting ceremony for the 184,000 square foot store.

The store manager said the new store employs more than 400 people.

"It provides excellent benefits for them. It's going to help them, as well as the local community, save $2,000 a year by buying the stuff that they buy normally by coming here and shopping with us and taking advantage of our discounts," Malone Wal-mart manager Chris McKinney said.

Before the Malone opening, the closest Wal-Mart was Plattsburgh—about an hour drive for most people in the area.
