ATP suspends Canas

By: The Associated Press

The tenth-ranked player in men's tennis has been suspended for two years. The ATP is suspending Argentina's Guillermo Canas after he tested positive for a banned substance that can be used to mask performance-enhancing drugs.

Canas failed the doping test at a tournament in Acapulco, Mexico, back in February. He was told in May, and his appeal in July was turned down. He can't play on the ATP Tour until June of 2007.

The six-time tournament winner said he took medicine for a sore throat and flu symptoms in Acapulco. He tested positive for a diuretic known as HCT, which can be used to treat hypertension.
