More inaccuracies in Ernie Davis statue
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Ernie Davis statue at Syracuse University once again has the public talking. Many thought the first rendition did not quite resemble the former SU football great and Elmira native.

The statue was re-done for the premier of the movie "The Express" and unveiled on the SU quad last Saturday. And now, new changes need to be made. The statue has the Nike swoosh on it, but Nike was not around when Davis played. There are also inaccuracies on the helmet.

"Era-specific discrepancies with the statue's shoes and helmet have been identified and are being addressed. The sculptor is an incredibly talented artist. He is discussing with the University what steps need to be taken to modify the statue and will be making the appropriate modifications as soon as possible. We believe this will not be a long process, "said university spokesman Kevin Morrow.

Morrow said the public reaction to the statue and the movie has been enthusiastic. He said that the sculpture's appearance in no way diminishes the esteem with which SU and the Central New York community hold Ernie and all that he accomplished.
