Family escapes Rowland Street fire
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Fire damages a Syracuse home and forces a young child to jump to safety. It started at a house on the 100-block of Rowland Street shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday.

Officials say the parents and an older child were able to get out on their own, but the younger child had to jump from a window. He was caught by a police officer.

The mother and two children were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

According to fire officials, there were no working smoke detectors in the home.

The Red Cross is now helping the family.
