Vice President Biden visits Bellevue Elementary school
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It's a day that students at Bellevue Elementary School will be telling their kids about some day, the day the country's Vice President came for a visit.

"I'm excited about meeting Mr. Joe Biden," said Bellevue Elementary third grader Tiahjanay Griswold.

And the students came prepared, armed with the technology needed to capture the special day.

"They're like 'oh my god, Joe Biden's coming here,' and I'm like, 'this is so cool, I'm gonna bring two cameras so I can be ready!'" said Yanira Johnson, a fifth grader at Bellevue Elementary School.

Biden's first wife was a teacher at Bellevue back when Biden was in law school at Syracuse University.

When Bellevue faculty found out Biden would be speaking at the Syracuse commencement they decided to go out on a limb and see if he'd stop by their elementary school too.

"We launched a letter writing campaign- a building-wide letter writing campaign and almost all the students in the school wrote letters to the Vice President, just in hopes that maybe he'd be able to visit Bellevue while he was here in town. It was a long-shot we were told and here it is, it's just amazing," said Joanne Harlow, principal of Bellevue Elementary School.

Undoubtedly the Vice President answers tough questions from people every day, and these kids, they're no different!

"What do he do when Mr. Obama is sick?" Griswold wondered.

"How does it feel to work in the white house, and is his job hard?" asked Johnson.

Biden even apologized for not responding to all the letters the students sent him.

"I felt really badly that I hadn't gotten back to all you guys. And I thank you for your letters and I apologize for not getting back to you right away," said Biden.

But the students didn't seem to mind one bit that Biden chose to respond in person instead of in writing.

After visiting with the students, Biden walked a short distance up Stinard Avenue which is just next to the school.

He used to live on that street during his law school days at Syracuse University.
