Civil War headstone finally put in place
AUBURN, N.Y. – A headstone found in South Carolina is finally where it belongs.

Last year, this headstone was discovered in a home outside Charleston. The new owners of the house didn't know what to do with it, so they put it out for the garbage man. Someone contacted a group of war veterans and they began the long task of tracking down the grave of one Private Andrew Bulkley.

But he wasn't in South Carolina. He was in Auburn, New York.

On Tuesday, Bulkley’s headstone was put in place at Fort Hill Cemetery with a military ceremony to honor the Civil War veteran.

"The person that deserves the most recognition, credit and thanks up here ain't us. He's laying right over there under that earth. Andrew Bulkley. Because he gave four years of his life to preserve his nation and for that, we owe him an immeasurable debt," said Brian Sharp, a war veteran and re-enactor.

Just how the headstone ended up in South Carolina is still a bit of a mystery.
