ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- One field of interest to some students who attended the Skills USA Competition is robotics and the Army was there to give them an up close and personal look at robots that are helping save lives.

The robots are remotely operated on the battlefield to keep soldiers at a safe distance from potentially dangerous areas. The robots search out bombs and dispose of them.

Army recruiters had the chance to teach people what they do and give kids more options for their future.

"With all the skills that they have, the competitions that they have, a lot of the things that they actually do translate. We have similar job fields or career fields in the Army. So we offer a lot of different opportunities to the students who are here," said Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Gonci.

The robots are not restricted to places like Iraq and Afghanistan. They are also used in places here at home.
