MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. – Six kids and two adults are rescued from Oneida Lake while they were ice fishing.
Authorities said the group was out on the lake near Bridgeport when the wind picked up, causing the ice to crack and leaving them stranded.
Fortunately, another person was on the lake in a rowboat at the time and aided the Bridgeport Fire Department in the rescue of all eight people.
Members of the fire department said the neighbor's help was greatly appreciated and the incident validates their training.
Frank Thompson Jr., Bridgeport Fire Chief said, “We just actually had an ice rescue class, a basic and advanced that was held just last month. So we do take it serious and we train and try to be proficient at it in case something like this happens."
None of the people involved sustained any injuries.
