SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It was a celebration Monday at St. Joseph's Health Center in Syracuse as the staff honored organ donors. The Donate Life flag was raised as a thanks to all organ donors.

The flag represents the generosity, courage and strength exhibited by donor families during a difficult time.

It's a time organizers say can be made easier by signing up on the organ donor registry.

"To make the decision that for themselves, at the end of life, that they will donate their organs. This helps the families not be worried about making a decision at a very difficult time because the patient has already made that decision for them," said Donna Farris of St. Joseph’s Health Center.

One organ donor can help up to eight families. A tissue donor can help up to 50 recipients.
