Winter weather hits the region

It may be the end of April, but parts of Central New York are dealing with several inches of snow and slick driving conditions. This somewhat unexpected burst of snow dropped as much as a half-foot in some areas. Our Brad Vivacqua has the latest LaFayette.

ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Many Central New Yorkers woke up to several inches of snow this morning. The somewhat unexpected snowfall totaled a half-foot in some areas and caused slick driving conditions for those making their way into work.

It was a chilly morning for most with numerous power outages across the region. In Lafayette, they received two to three inches of snow overnight.

The good news is that YNN meteorologists do not expect us to see much more accumulation today. One man we spoke to seemed to welcome the snowfall.

"Doesn't bother me at all, if we kept getting hot our lakes would be puddles by June. I don't mind. This will keep the ants and the rodents back in their holes for a while," said Phil Olenych, a Syracuse resident.

The snowy conditions also caused several school delays and even a few closures today.
