SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Police are characterizing the death of man beaten and left in the parking lot of a Syracuse tire store as "brutal."

Police have arrested Lewis Swift, 31, and Gregory Ware, 27, in the death of Carnell Marshall, 27, earlier this month.

Marshall's body was found in the parking lot of the Cole Muffler, Mavis Discount Tire on South Salina Street April 14th. Police aren't saying much about what happened to cause Marshall's death or why, but they say there was a fight in or near Swift's home on McAllister Avenue, where Marshall went willingly. And they say Marshall may still have been alive when he was dragged to the nearby lot.

"It's all part of our ongoing investigation. And that will go to the heinous part of this crime. Injuries were massive and devastating to the victim," said Syracuse Police Sergeant Tom Connellan.

Both Swift and Ware face charges of second degree murder. Police say their investigation is still "very active and ongoing."
