SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Fire damaged a vacant building in Syracuse.
Crews were called to the home on Mary Street just after 7:30 a.m. Sunday. They arrived to find heavy fire at the front of the building.
No one was inside at the time and firefighters were able to get the flames knocked down in about twenty minutes. But they faced some difficulties getting inside because the front stairs were already on fire.
"They had to go around to the rear, go through the rear, go up the stairs that way. Again, there was a lot of clutter in the house, it was pretty difficult to drag lines through there, but they did a great job getting the fire knocked down quickly so it didn't spread to the rest of the house," said Syracuse District Fire Chief Mark Hatch.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
