SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- People of Polish heritage celebrated Polish Constitution Day. The celebration took place at Syracuse's Pulaski Park Thursday.

The celebration consisted of eating a Polish feast, raising the Polish and American flags, singing the national anthems and reading poems.

The day was created to celebrate Poland and is also a day to have a feast for the country's Queen. On May 3rd, 1791, Poland signed the constitution and made history in Europe. It was the first European country to write and ratify a constitution.

"Even though our history was so dynamic and changing at those times, that's what would help to do to bring up the ultimate goal that the freedom of Poland," said Father Andrew Baranski of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

If you missed out on Thursday's celebration, Syracuse's Polish Festival is the second weekend in June.
