NEW YORK STATE -- A bill that recently passed the State Assembly's Corrections Committee aims to ensure photos of registered sex offenders are as up-to-date as possible.

The legislation was written up following last year's arrest of Robert Blainey, a repeat sex offender who murdered a Utica woman while on parole.

Blainey's appearance when caught was drastically different than a widely circulated photo of him.

The new law would allow law enforcement to take updated pictures of level three sex offenders if they've changed the way they look when they report to officials.

The bill next has to come up for a vote before the full Assembly. If passed, it will then head to the Senate for approval
