Ronald McDonald House to open soon

It won't be long before the Ronald McDonald House of Central New York is operating from its new facility in Syracuse. The new home, which will host families of children being treated at local hospitals, is expected to be open by summer's end. Our Brad Vivacqua has an update.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- You can drive by the new house on Genesee Street, and see things are coming together quite well for the Ronald McDonald House. Interior work on the four-story home still has a little way to go, but it won't be long before families are able to stay here, hopefully by September.

The new facility will include 39 guest rooms with private bathrooms and a dual kitchen. The handicap accessible facility is about four times the size of the current facility, which is located across the street.

Interior work on the floors, some painting, and installation of cabinets and furniture should be finished in about a month. Officials say it's exciting to see it all come together.

"It's really extraordinary to see what we're going to be able to offer these families, who come here during very difficult when their child is seriously ill or injury. Sometimes outpatient, sometimes inpatient and we're able to keep families together," said Beth Trunfio, RMH of CNY Executive Director.

The executive director says the community has really stepped forward to help contribute to the capital campaign, which has a goal of $6 million.

You can still help by making a donation to help reach that goal. Visit the Ronald McDonald House of Central New York website at www.cnyronaldmcdonaldhouse.org/newhome.
