SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Local SPCA investigators are searching for the owner of a puppy found with a severe case of mange in a Syracuse apartment complex.

The 10-week-old pit bull mix was found Thursday morning near a trash bin at the complex on Court Street in Salina. Officials at the Central New York SPCA said dog patrol was called after someone reported the puppy in the area.

The dog was being treated at the SPCA for mange, a parasitic disease which causes hair loss. It could take up to six months to fully treat.

The SPCA said the dog's condition is considered animal abuse and there is a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the owner.

If you have any information, call the SPCA at (315) 454-3469.
