The man who some call "America's Mayor" paid a visit to our area in support of a fellow party member.

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani made some appearances in Saratoga Springs on Monday.

He was trying to give Republican Congressman John Sweeney of Clifton Park a boost in his re-election bid.

Giuliani said Sweeney has what it takes to make New York a safer place to live.

Giuliani said, "John knows how to stand up for us. He knows how to stand up for us when you need first responder money, and he knows how to stand up for us. And we have to continue to keep the terrorists on the defense, and we have to remain on the offense."

Sweeney said, "My campaign is going to be about making those points and driving home that message that the United States of America must stay strong, must stay diligent, must stay vigilant in protecting its citizens."

Sweeney is facing a challenge in the 20th Congressional District from Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand. And there is speculation that Giuliani is considering a run for the presidency in 2008.
