Gettysburg monument damaged
GETTYSBURG, PA. -- A monument at the Gettysburg battlefield may have to be dismantled to determine how much damage a lightning strike caused.
The monument to the 6th New York Cavalry was struck during a storm back on October 9th.
The monument sustained damage to the surface, but the National Park Service is trying to determine how severe it is.
They say repairs could cost more than $100,000.
The monument was placed on the Civil War battlefield back in 1889.
Parts of the 6th New York Cavalry were recruited during the Civil War from the Capital District, Binghamton, Canton and Ogdensburg.
