A North Country first grader whose father serves in the Army, found a neat way to give back to the men and women of Fort Drum. Her family and friends bought Girl Scout cookies from her and let her donate them to the USO. Our Brian Dwyer was there Friday as she dropped them off for some hungry soldiers.

FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, Thin Mints and Tagalongs. Girl Scout cookies are on the way. But one place that wasn't expecting any, Fort Drum's USO, just got a massive delivery.

Six-year-old Annabelle Sweet has a father who serves on Fort Drum. So in her first year as a girl scout, she came up with the idea to sell boxes to friends and family, but donate the cookies to the soldiers.

"To say thank you for protecting us, and I thought they would like a cookie because they're far away from their moms," Annabelle said.

Annabelle's father, a Lieutenant Colonel with the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, says she's knows what it's like when dad's gone and wanted to make sure all soldiers know they're missed back home.

"I'm very proud of my daughter," Lt. Col. Erick Sweet said. "This was her all her. She's a very empathetic young lady. She's constantly thinking about the soldiers."

And the USO's director says it was one of the most touching things she's ever seen.

"It's incredible that children so young are so perceptive. This war has been going on a long time, over a decade. Here she is, her whole life all she's known is our nation at war and at six years old she knows to support the troops? It's powerful and she's an inspiration," Karen Clark said.

Annabelle donated 60 boxes of cookies. The USO will give them out here at the building and take some to events it attends.
