Soybean processing plant now operating

By: Capital News 9 web staff

The only soybean processing plant in northern New York is now operating.

The Massena plant has been in the planning stages for more than two decades.

Ag Pro will produce high quality soybean oil and soy-based animal feed, and turn 150 tons of raw soybeans per day into meal and oil.

Most soybean processing plants use a solvent process, using
petroleum-based chemicals to separate the soy oil from the beans.

The Massena plant is believed to be one of only three in the United States that separate the oil mechanically.

The plant owners expect North Country farmers to plant up to 10,000 acres of soybeans next year.
