New resource for domestic violence victims

New resource for domestic violence victims
UTICA, N.Y. -- Each year, police departments across New York receive 400,000 calls reporting domestic violence incidents. Those numbers come from the state office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence.

On Thursday, representatives from that office were in Utica to offer a new resource for domestic violence victims. The "Finding Safety and Support" guide is designed to help victims navigate the criminal justice system in New York. It is now available in five languages: English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Arabic. The goal is to reach and help as many victims as possible.

"When victims receive information in their own language, they feel not only that they can understand the information but they feel recognized and seen in a way that often they don't as victims typically," said Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence Executive Director Amy Barasch.

These representatives were on hand as part of crime victims’ week.
