Elementary principal arrested for 'excessive force'

WEST WINFIELD, N.Y. -- The principal at Mount Markham Elementary School in West Winfield has been arrested for allegedly using excessive physical force while restraining a third grade student.
James LaFountain, 57, was charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child. Details are not being released about the incident.
YNN reached out to the school district, who said they conducted their own investigation and then reported the case to police and the State Education Department.
The superintendent said LaFountain was placed on administrative leave, and the Director of Pupil Services has taken over his responsibilities at the school.
The Board of Education is expected to meet in the near future to discuss and review its options as this process proceeds.
