WHITESBORO, N.Y. -- Less than a day after Whitesboro's mayor resigned and a new one was appointed, officials are saying the office could see another change of command in less than two weeks.
The village board voted to appoint Trustee Bob Friedlander as mayor following Brenda Gilberti's resignation on Wednesday. Friedlander will serve until the end of the fiscal year, which is April 2. Board members will then decide whether to keep him in the position or appoint someone new.
Despite the recent changes, the current mayor wants people to know the village government remains stable.
"We're very, very solid, and should, for some reason, I not be reappointed on April 2, I can assure them the appointment will come from someone on this board, and we're all capable of doing it and doing a very good job," said Mayor Friedlander.
A special election will be held next March for voters to pick a new mayor to serve out the last year of Gilberti's term.
