UTICA, N.Y. -- Two families were forced out of their homes in West Utica Friday night after fire broke out.

Officials believe the fire started on 1243 Lincoln Avenue around 7 p.m. It apparently traveled up through the house, and quickly spread to the house next door. Fire crews worked until 6 a-m Saturday morning putting out the last of the hot spots.

They say six people were displaced. None of them were hurt, but at least five animals died in the fire. The Red Cross has stepped in to offer the residents assistance with food, clothing and a place to stay.

Homeowner, Raymond Hart said, “I just don't know what to do. Right now everything's a fog, it's not going to hit us for a couple days. And then we'll realize just what we lost.”

The Fire Marshall is still investigating the cause of the fire, but large sections of the homes are still inaccessible after multiple floors collapsed.
