ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- A restructuring for Daimler Buses operations across the country means the end of production at the Orion bus plant in Oriskany. Daimler announced plans today to partner with Motor Coach Industries to increase its market share in North America.
At the same time, Daimler says it plans to exit the transit bus business, as it expects demand to remain low over the next several years. Orion will no longer be taking new orders starting today, and over the next year, the company's facility in Ontario will be closed.
The Oriskany location will remain open for parts and field service only. Daimler will also continue a retro-fit program for current customers at the facility.
There's no word yet how many employees at the Oriskany plant will be affected, but Daimler says all eligible employees will receive separation benefits.
