UTICA, N.Y. -- Utica police charged two people with assault and burglary for attacking the tenants of their old apartment. Police responded to a call around 10 p.m. Tuesday on Neilson Street.

The tenants told officers that Eusebio Ferrera, 50, and Elizabeth Mora, 38, the previous tenants of the apartment, forced their way inside and assaulted them. Ferrera is accused of hitting the man inside in the head with an aluminum pipe and then trying to choke him with that pipe. Police say he also hit the woman inside in the face with the pipe. Police say Mora tried to stab the man with a screw driver.

Neighbors were able to intervene. Both Mora and Ferrera face multiple charges.
