SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Jim Boeheim addressed the firing of his long time assistant Bernie Fine and the investigation surrounding Fine's alleged child molestation.

The University fired Fine Sunday following allegations he abused two ball boys when they were teens.

Tuesday night was the first time Boeheim has spoken on camera since Fine's termination. He was visibly upset over the situation and said it was hard to put everything into words.

"I'm saddened in many ways by what's unfolded, the events that have unfolded, and I'm looking forward to a time when we can talk and learn from what has happened. There is an important investigation going on, which I fully support, and I can't add anything to that, by speaking more about that now. The investigation and all that we can learn from that is what is important," said Boeheim.

Boeheim has come under criticism for comments he made about the two accusers when the initial ESPN report was released. At the time, the coach staunchly defended his long time assistant and said past investigations had turned up nothing and he believed the two men were lying. He felt Fine was innocent.

Those remarks have lead to some calling for Boeheim's resignation. Here is what he had to say about that initial statement.

"I supported a friend, that's what I thought I did. I'm proud that I did. I think if you've known somebody and worked with somebody for 36 years, known them for 40 years, you went to school with them, I think you owe a debt of allegiance and gratitude for what he did for the program and that's what my reaction was,” Boeheim said.
