STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- Opening statements in the Marland Brooks murder trial will start Thursday.
Jury selection was wrapped up early Wednesday and the judge gave everyone the rest of the day off.
Brooks, who is from Elmira, is accused of killing Clark Van Etten last June at Van Etten's Corning apartment.
Brooks' lawyer claims his client acted in self-defense. He's facing two counts of second degree murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon and could potentially face an unrelated assault charge after allegedly getting into a physical altercation with corrections officers earlier this month.
