BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan says he has been contacted by the Senate Democratic Campaign Committee about a possible state senate run.

Ryan met with the committee in Albany last Monday to talk about running for the 52nd district, which includes Broome and Tioga County, as well as parts of Chenango County.

New York state Senator Thomas Libous currently holds that seat.

Before any decisions are made, Ryan says he wants to look at his ability to raise money and how he can best serve the Southern Tier.

"I have not made a decision yet I'm fully weighing my options. There are a lot of people I want to talk to. We've had a really productive mayorship here and there are a lot of things I'd like to see finished, but at the end of the day I'll make a decision on how I can best serve this area. I've really not made a decision at this point," said Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan.

Ryan was first elected mayor in 2005. His mayoral term is up at the end of 2013.
