BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- A new event aims to educate the public on careers in the natural gas industry.

The Joint Landowners Coalition is hosting its first ever Natural Gas Career and Education Expo Wednesday night. The event will feature more than 45 vendors from throughout New York, Pennsylvania and Canada.

Those who attend will be able to discuss opportunities in several areas including construction, civil engineering and wildlife management.

Organizers say the expo is not a political statement about hydrofracking.

"I want to be clear on this, this is not a forum on whether we should drill or whether we shouldn't drill. It’s only about careers, it’s only about education," said Broome County Legislator Stephen Herz.

The event will be held at the Broome Community College Ice Center on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m.
