BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- It's opening weekend for the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park, and that means a fun time for families and furry friends.

This is the zoo's 137th grand opening weekend. Families were able to enjoy free crafts and entertainment, like animal matching games, face-painting and creating bird feeders, among other things. Local organizations joined in on the fun with Earth Day stations set up throughout the zoo.

Early season pricing will run until Memorial Day. Adults tickets are $5.50, seniors pay $5.00 and children ages 3 to 11 pay $4.50.

Employees said they didn't get as many people as they hoped for, because of the weather, but were still happy to open.

Patti Searles, Binghamton Zoo Education Curator said, “The weather hasn't cooperated as much as we would like, all the animals are out, all the leaves are raked and we have a lot of activities going on. And a lot of organizations participating."

This year, the zoo is celebrating the Year of the Red Panda. Special Earth Day t-shirts the zoo's red panda, Mei-Li, are available for $10.
