Man arrested after trying to set fire to vacant home

BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Broome County man is facing multiple charges after police say he tried to set a fire at a vacant flood-damaged residence in the Town of Union.

Jason Wheeler, 30, of Endicott, was arrested Sunday morning after fleeing from the home on Evelyn Street. He was charged with arson, burglary and attempted burglary in connection with the crime.

Wheeler was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance after police found two crack pipes on him during the arrest. He is now being held in Broome County Jail without bail.
