SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. -- Congressman Tom Reed will be appearing on one less ballot line in the upcoming election.
Reed's name has been removed from the Independence Party line after the State Board of Elections invalidated some petition signatures.
Reed says 56 signatures were invalidated, mostly for procedural errors. That puts the Congressman 29 signatures short of the requirement.
Reed is running for re-election in the newly-created 23rd Congressional District. He will face off against the winner of the Democratic congressional primary.
Reed will still appear on the Republican and Conservative Party lines. The Independence line will remain blank.
