CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. -- The city of Elmira is taking yet another neglectful landlord to court. Christopher Murphy appeared in City Court Wednesday, facing 10 misdemeanor charges regarding his home at 757 Linden Place.
According to court documents, the interior of the house contains a vast amount of unorganized piles of clothing, papers, open and unopened food products, decaying organic materials, and containers filled with urine.
Some of the charges include structure unfit for human occupancy and failure to maintain a clear pathway in the home. There are also a number of fire and electrical hazards in the home.
Murphy’s case was adjourned until August. He was assigned a public defender and directed not to stay at the home. He could face a $1,000 fine per day and up to a year in prison for each violation.
