ITHACA, N.Y. -- A rare exhibit celebrating Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday is drawing spectators to Cornell University.

The exhibit features original copies of three of the president's most important documents: the Gettysburg Address, the Emancipation Proclamation and the Thirteenth Amendment, which ended slavery. Also on display are memorabilia from Lincoln's campaign, the Civil War and his assassination.

More than 1,000 people have come to get an up close look at the papers, some penned by Lincoln himself.

"The idea that you can see something that was touched by Lincoln, was written by Lincoln, was held by Lincoln or was associated with Lincoln is a very different experience than reading about it. And it really gives you a direct connection to history," said Elaine Engst, director of the division of Rare and Manuscript Collections at the Cornell University Library.

The exhibit is on display until April.
