ALBANY, N.Y. -- The legislature will begin the work week with a public hearing on Governor Andrew Cuomo's proposed budget. Today's hearings will look at a few measures to raise taxes on loose tobacco and on cigars.
The biggest tax issue was resolved in December when the governor and Senate Republicans approved the Assembly's ‘millionaire's tax,’ which adds $2 billion to the budget. Some of that money will come back to taxpayers.
It's estimated the average middle class family will get back $200 to $400.
