Ithaca murder trial underway
TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. -- The trial of an Ithaca man accused of murder gets underway. Lawyers are expected to deliver their opening statements in the trial of Corbin Whyte this afternoon.
Whyte is accused of shooting Paul Garcia, 47, in the chest, and then robbing him. Garcia's body was found in the parking lot of the Maple Hill Apartment Complex in December 2010. A witness told police the two men had been fighting over drugs and a relationship with a woman before the shooting.
Garcia had been living in New York City at the time, but previously lived in Ithaca.
The trial is expected to last two to four weeks.
