CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Cortland County hunters will finally get a chance to take part in an experimental crossbow hunting season.
State Senator James Seward says the county was left out of the 2011 legislation that allowed the use of crossbows in big game hunting. But under the most recent legislation signed into law by Governor Cuomo, Cortland County has been added to that list.
The experimental season is only in effect until the end of this year, but could possibly be extended until 2014.
Senator Seward says allowing crossbows will encourage more people to hunt, especially senior citizens and the disabled.
