Tomato sales down due to salmonella scare
NATIONWIDE -- The recent salmonella scare means there will likely be fewer tomatoes on the family table this holiday weekend.

Tomato producers say sales are down and farmers nationwide have had to plow under their fields and leave their crops to rot.

Losses are already topping $100 million and tomato industry leaders are calling for a congressional investigation into the outbreak.

At this point, the source of the salmonella has not been determined and even though the government recently announced other types of produce might have caused the outbreak, tomato farmers say it's too late. Their summer season is already ruined.
