JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- Jury Selection began Monday in the case against Kelly Keegan, 33.

Keegan was arrested last March for child abuse charges after an infant ended up in the hospital.

Town of Lyme rescue crews found 11-month old Kate Cawvey unconscious, with friction burns to her ears, an arm fracture and violent blunt force trauma to her head, causing serious brain injuries.

Keegan, who was dating the child's mother at the time, faces first degree assault and reckless assault of a child.

Eight jurors were seated Monday, three women and five men. Jury selection will continue Tuesday at 9 a.m.
