New chief of police appointed in Potsdam

ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- The village of Potsdam will soon have a new chief of police. Kevin Bates, a current sergeant with the Potsdam Police Department, will take on the role effective March 31st.

Bates and three others were eligible for the position. Interviews concluded last week, and Bates was appointed on Monday.

Bates has been a member of the Potsdam police force for 17 years.
