WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- Thanks to a horse named Funny Cide, the Kentucky Derby will always have a special meaning to the North County and a local organization is hoping this year's big race will help bring in some much needed funds.
The Family Counseling Services of Northern New York is hosting a big auction for the derby Saturday night. People can also buy a horse and win prizes and the money goes to helping FCS allow families to afford family parenting classes.
"Last year, the proceeds that came in from the event doubled from the year before. We're hoping to be able to increase that again this year. Personally, that meant a lot to me," said FCS Board Member Lisa L’Huillier.
The event will be held at the Italian American Civic Association in Watertown. It kicks off at 5 p.m. Tickets are $40 at the door and couples can get in for $60.
